If the filter element is installed in the fuel line, it is called an external filter element; conversely, an internal filter element refers to the filter element installed inside the fuel pump and fuel tank. The fuel tank filter element or its protective cover is generally considered a maintenance-free component.
Many imported vehicles use drum-shaped tube connections for their fuel filters. To ensure reliable connection sealing, the same gasket should never be reused. Furthermore, even with a brand new gasket, its tightness after tightening must be checked. When the fuel system requires replacing O-rings, it is essential to ensure the O-ring specification is accurate and to check its elasticity and hardness.
A no-return fuel system has only one internal filter element (inside the fuel tank). Although this multi-functional pump, filter, and delivery unit is expensive, timely and proper maintenance and upkeep are necessary when fuel delivery is obstructed or engine performance deteriorates. Simultaneously, all fuel lines should be inspected for faults, and cracks and curling at hose clamps should be checked.
